Jacky Lansley, Choreographer and performance artist has been practicing
for more than three decades; she forged her unique style from a rigorous
training in both classical work with the Royal Ballet Company
and in the radical, conceptual worlds of Performance Art and New Dance
practice, seen in early innovative works such as Dance Object
& Dancing Ledge (at X6 Dance Space)
Mounting & Park Cafeteria (with Sally
Potter & Rose English as Limited
Dance Company); I,Giselle (with Fergus
Early); A Child's Play and The
Breath of Kings.
The artist's work combines visual and theatrical disciplines and is concerned
with space and the site specific; she has made works in many different
kinds of indoor and outdoor environments and her most recent project View
from the Shore was inspired by the Cornish coastal landscape with
which she has had a long term special relationship. The artist was a founder
of UK's major Independent dance studios - X6 Dance Space
and Chisenhale Dance Space - and in 2002 she moved into
her own studio, the Dance Research Studio, which
has supported the making of more recent works including: Bird
(2001); Holding Space (2004); Floor (2004); View From the Shore &
Anamule Dance (2007) and a short narrative dance film The
Life Class (2008) - (see previous & earlier
work for further details).
Throughout 2008 Lansley will be researching and developing Dance
Objects a performance with film installation for gallery
and studio spaces which explores the relationship between dance and
visual art; and Guests a large ensemble choreographic
project for theatre spaces; both works will be presented throughout
2009/10. See NEWS AND EVENTS
Lansley is a highly experienced teacher and has devised approaches to
the training of dancers in interdisciplinary performance work; she teaches
regularly at the DANCE RESEARCH STUDIO and her new modular programme
THE SPEAKING DANCER: Interdisciplinary Performance Training
will be launched in February 2009 (please see DANCE
RESEARCH STUDIO for further details)
