Jacky Lansley, Choreographer and performance artist has been practicing for more than three decades; she forged her unique style from a rigorous training in both classical work with the Royal Ballet Company and in the radical, conceptual worlds of Performance Art and New Dance practice.

The artist's work combines visual and theatrical disciplines and is concerned with space and the site specific; she has made works in many different kinds of indoor and outdoor environments and one of her most recent projects a View from the Shore was inspired by the Cornish coastal landscape with which she has had a long term special relationship. The artist was a founder of UK's major Independent dance studios - X6 Dance Space and Chisenhale Dance Space - and in 2002 she moved into her own studio, the Dance Research Studio, which has supported the making of more recent works including: Bird (2001); Holding Space (2004); View From the Shore & Anamule Dance (2007); Standing Stones (2008); a short narrative dance film The Life Class (2008) and Guests R&D (2010); Guest Suites (2012) and ABOUT US (2016)

Published by Intellect books

ChoreographiesIn Choreographies, Jacky Lansley covers her own practice from 1975 to 2017. The book delves into an important period of change in contemporary British dance - exploring British New Dance, postmodern dance, and experimental dance outside of a canonical US context. Lansley offers unique insight into the processes behind independent choreography and paints a vivid portrait of a rigorous practice that combines dance, performance art, visuals and a close attention to space and site.
